If you or a loved one would like to access specialist rehabilitation care at New Hope Rehabilitation, here is what you need to know. Most patients need a current referral from a GP or specialist before their first consultation. This is a Medicare requirement, not an extra hurdle, and the steps below explain exactly how it works.
How to Get Referred
Step 1: Speak with Your Doctor
Under Australian Medicare regulations, you need a valid referral from a registered Medical Practitioner (GP or specialist) to claim Medicare rebates for your consultation. GP referrals are typically valid for 12 months; specialist referrals are typically valid for 3 months.
Step 2: Sending Your Referral
Ask your GP to send the referral directly to us via Medical Objects, secure fax, or email. Alternatively, you can upload a copy using our secure online referral form.
Step 3: We Contact You
Once Dr Iyer reviews your referral, our reception team will contact you directly to confirm your appointment time, provide intake paperwork, and outline what to bring.
What to Bring to Your First Consultation
- Your GP or specialist referral letter
- Recent imaging reports (X-ray, MRI, CT) and pathology results, if you have them
- A current list of medications and allergies
- Medicare card, private health fund details, DVA card, or WorkCover claim details as applicable
